ryanSpecial Needs Patients

Dr. Karpinski is trained to assess children and adults with special needs, as these patients may require special dental plans that are specially adapted for them. We can offer customized dental care for children and adults who are affected by mental, psychological or physical disabilities and who may require additional assistance during dental treatment or during other dental care appointment. if you have a special needs child or you are a caregiver to an adult with special needs then we can offer respectful, caring and gentle dental care.

Dr. Karpinski and staff takes the time to get to know children and adults with special needs, so they can learn how best to help them feel more comfortable in our dental office. Everyone is unique and some people are more sensitive to meeting new people, to touch or to a change in routine or environment. These charges can be minimized through ensuring a person with special needs is treated by the same dentist or other members of dental staff and the room at each visit.
There are many things to take into account when treating special needs patients, for example their current health status or medications that can affect their diet and could increase the risk of oral diseases. Certain children or adults may need to follow special diets.

Some children and adults with special needs are less able than others to look after their teeth and gums and this can increase their susceptibility towards developing gum disease and cavities. If it’s difficult for them to brush their teeth, or for you to look after their oral hygiene at home then we can help through showing you specific techniques appropriate to their needs.

IV SEDATION FOR SPECIAL NEED PATIENTS

The special needs population is very diverse. The reasons for sedation and anesthesia are just as varied. The special needs patient can be very challenging to treat in the general dental office environment. However we provide the equipment and understanding of each case. That is the reason in many cases we take the approach to use IV sedation for patients comfort.
